Vintage Naperville Home Love Story

This month I commemorated my 25-year mark as a real estate broker.  I have been fortunate to have helped over 2,000 families find new homes, with each transaction having a unique story.   Last month we sold a vintage two-bedroom, two-bathroom Cape Cod-style Naperville home built in 1929 on Columbia Street in North Naperville.  We had a wonderful conversation with Donna Plumb, one of four daughters who grew up there. She shared some of her family history and pictures bringing to life a colorful and vivid story. Donna's parents, William and Ruth, settled into the home in 1948 and raised four beautiful daughters there.  Donna shared that her late sister Lynn was in fact the first female letter carrier for the U.S Postal office in Naperville.  Dad Bill was a WWII Marine.  Mom was an avid gardener, homemaker, and baker. The children cut through the backyard to go to Beebe school through pastures and farms, petting the resident bull on the way.

Truly heartwarming, Ruth's daughters moved back to the family home last summer to take care of their mom in her final days.  She was just shy of her 98th birthday.   The homestead will be replaced with a new home and family this fall.  Donna wanted me to know that she appreciated how my team took the time to communicate and listen to their needs. It means the world to me to have helped Donna and her sisters transition to this last chapter on Columbia, a large beautiful tree-lined lot including Ruth's amazing garden.      

At the conclusion of our vibrant conversation, Donna summarized it so well; "Close-knit families are there in the beginning and help each other to the end, surrounded by the love of family."
